Technology and communication

Nowadays, people are relying superbly heavily on technology for daily life. I, myself, am a huge fan of technology. I use an iPhone for basically every aspect of my life. I have my schedules stored on Google through the phone, I twitt through the phone, I text people outside the country with the phone. No matter what they say about their procedures for privacy protection, I know that when I type on the phone, they are collecting data from me for their development purpose. Technology in a sense is not really protecting people's privacy, but rather invade it.

Think about Facebook. We can usually find everything about a person through this online community. People are sharing way too much on it and the company actually gather a great deal of information about every single user. I remember when I changed my relationship status on Facebook before. Within seconds, adds about LOCAL WOMEN showed up on the page. I always wonder what Facebook is thinking about me since it thinks I need local women.  I don't really think it has a good opinion on me or anything. I personally feel that we have our privacy basically exposed now with all the technology development. Sometimes they say that we can control how our device stores data, however, what is true is that we often forgot to turn the feather off or we don't even know if it is storing because it doesn't directly indicate so.

  1. I have thought this exact same thing. I especially started to get alarm when adds would come up on the site of things I had recently shopped for online or things I had made my status about. I also get alarmed when facebook mentions that I have attended something based on a picture I uploaded there or something like that. All technology does is open us up more and more to the world and I actually think it tears us apart from our own emotions and thoughts. Instead of walking to class and thinking or reflecting on the day you can listen to your ipod, make a phone call, email, or even check facebook. People now more about other people then they need to and instead of focusing on there own lives they are consumed with others.

  2. It is scary to think that all of the e-mails, phone calls, and facebook chats are being recorded for development and safety purposes. I know that there is a reason for this, but sometimes I think that this is a huge invasion of a persons privacy. People do need to be careful about what information and/or pictures he or she is sharing on various profiles. This information can be seen by anyone anywhere within a matter of seconds. Facebook will match me with people I "might know" based on my location and interests. I have gotten friend requests from people I have never met before who live all accross the US. Sometimes its scary to wonder what other personal information might be out there that we are unaware of.
