In this scene we see Jake Sully receiving his Avatar body for the first time; Jake is sitting up on a doctors table in a patient gown and he looks confused and amazed as he is looking at his feet. Then there is the female doctor to the right of him looking up at him with amazement and fear. This scene is trying to make you feel the momentousness of this occasion. For starters we have Jake Sully a human no in an Avatar body which is a huge medical and scientific discovery. Then we have Jake Sully a human who lost use of his legs; now an Avatar who can walk. And finally we have an Avatar body which is extremely big and a completely different people than the small female human next to him. When you see Jake Sully who used to be human as an Avatar you cannot help but feel amazed he looks completely different and yet we still know he is Jake Sully; mostly by the fact that he is looking at his once un-mobile legs. In seeing that Jake Sully now has working legs the film and scene is making a feel relief, happy, and sympathetic for Jake and the opportunity he has. And finally seeing Jake as a Avatar next the a human and the size of Jake compared to the human and all the other differences such as color, hair, ear, and face and other differences show the extreme differences and just how completely non-similar there two people are.

I think that this scene is making the argument to show just how scientifically advanced and ahead of where we are today, to make the whole movie and notion of the Na'vi people possible by showing "hey this is us extremely advanced so this is a different time, and not like today". I also think this scene is showing just how different the two peoples are; allowing the viewer’s not necessarily to side with the humans but to maybe understand why they are so afraid of the Na'vi people. And giving people a reason to believe that in a way the attack on Pandora is in some ways is acceptable.
